Great another book for my nightstand. Seriously, thanks for the write up. You’ve motivated me to get back to the books and the deep thoughts in life.

Greg, thanks so much for reviewing this book! I’ve read about halfway (until I realized that we need to be reading a different book for our trip this week). I had a tough time reading past the Young Earth focus this book has. However, I am glad that they are trying to address why people are leaving the church.

Since I know you’re an educated scientist, the whole time I was reading I kept thinking, “I wonder what Greg would say about this.” Now I know!

Thanks for sharing these stats and this perspective, Greg. I think this is really important to be aware of and fighting against. I definitely feel the constant allure of consumerism. I know reading Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger really opened my eyes, and made our materialistic culture seem much less appealing. And it’s really not a guilt motivation, either. It just doesn’t make sense in light of the inequity in the world, and the resources needed to reach every people group with the gospel.

Thanks for plugging through all this material Greg. Sounds like a dry read.
I think you summed it up well through when you said, “Human structure seems to get in the way of God’s leadership.”
We always want to be comfortable and to feel like we are in control. Ha – who are we kidding. This is a good reminder that it is the Spirit who grows his church and we need to seek spiritual insight over safety and predictability.

Excellent review Greg, and great quotes. His approach to dealing with suffering is similar to Larry Crabbs, although a little more distilled and wrapped around biblical terminology a little better.
